Alleen op 25 december wordt Kerst gevierd, een Tweede Kerstdag kent men niet in Amerika. Kerstavond en &#8216;Eerste&#8217; Kerstdag worden traditioneel gevierd met het gezin. Pakjes onder de kerstboom en de hele dag in je pyjama. Er worden geen schoenen gezet, maar aan de schoorsteen worden sokken gehangen. In de nacht worden er kleine presentjes in de sokken gedaan die de kinderen de volgende dag open kunnen maken. In veel straten is het bijna een wedstrijd om het mooiste huis van de buurt te hebben. Meestal start men na Thanksgiving met het ophangen van kerstversieringen in de straten en het versieren van de huizen. Soms worden zelfs bedrijven ingehuurd om alles op te hangen en kan alles na kerst weer in de opslag bij het bedrijf. De kosten voor al die versieringen lopen enorm op, net als de energierekening deze dagen.
