Oceania Allura is het achtste schip in de vloot van Oceania Cruises. Aan boord is er ruimte voor slechts 1.200 gasten. Om je een idee te geven: er kunnen 7.600 passagiers aan boord van de Icon of the Seas, het grootste cruiseschip ter wereld. Gasten worden tot in de puntjes verwend door ruim 800 personeelsleden. Het schip is 241 meter lang en weegt meer dan 67.000 ton, vergelijkbaar met 15.000 olifanten. De Oceania Allura heeft 15 decks, waarvan er 12 toegankelijk zijn voor passagiers. De cruiseschepen vertrekken allemaal vanuit Port Miami, zo\u2019n tien minuten van Downtown Miami en ruim vijftien minuten van Miami Beach. De meeste schepen varen eerst langs Downtown, waar ze 360 graden draaien, om vervolgens via het \u2018Government Cut\u2019-kanaal naar de open zee te varen. Dat stukje alleen is al waanzinnig om mee te maken op het schip. Je passeert South Pointe Park en Pier, waar Miamianen en toeristen naar je zwaaien. Geliefd bij de passagiers kregen ook de Oceania-schepen Riviera, Vista en nu Oceania Allura een Jacques-restaurant aan boord. Het menu is een combinatie van gedurfde nieuwe smaken en tijdloze Franse klassiekers die al op het menu staan sinds Jacques voor het eerst aan boord kwam. Denk aan eend met sinaasappelsaus van Grand Marnier, een kalfsmedaillon met morillesaus en legendarische Franse desserts zoals cr\u00eapes suzette en profiteroles.<\/p>\n<p>Wij kozen voor de traditionele steak tartaar, een Franse klassieker. De olijfolie-sommelier passeert met een karretje met daarop tien verschillende olijfoli\u00ebn, voor bij het versgebakken Italiaanse brood. Elke olie komt uit een andere regio en heeft duidelijk verschillende smaken: van zacht tot pittig en uitgesproken. Bij de olijfolie vertelt de sommelier welke balsamicoazijn het best past.<\/p>\n<p>En dat is nog maar het brood. De Italiaanse verwennerij gaat verder met antipasti, pasta\u2019s, risotto\u2019s en salades. De klassieke Caesar salad wordt aan tafel bereid met ansjovis, croutons en geschaafde Parmigiano Reggiano. De reis door Itali\u00eb gaat verder met de secondi: van traditionele osso buco en filetto di manzo tot een verse kreeftenstaart met knoflook, chilipepers en aan de wijnrank gerijpte San Marzano-tomaten. Een toren van kreeftenstaarten en krabbenpoten, garnalencocktails, vis, pat\u00e9, Franse kazen en zelfs kaviaar. Overal waar je kijkt zie je de lekkerste delicatessen. Je vergeet bovendien dat je aan boord bent van een cruiseschip; het is alsof je bruncht in een chique Europees hotel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Alsof al die heerlijke overdaad nog niet genoeg is, geven we je alvast een tip: houd een plekje over voor dessert. Want zo indrukwekkend als alle hartige gerechten zijn, zo groots is het dessertbuffet. Bij Waves kun je terecht voor lekkere hamburgers en sandwiches. Ontbijten deden wij bij Terrace Caf\u00e9, waar je buiten op het achterschip van het schip kunt ontbijten met de eindeloze oceaan als decor. Hoewel je dit restaurant officieel als buffet kunt classificeren, vonden wij het eerder live cooking. Nog een stapje verder is een <em>Culinary Discovery Tour<\/em> in \u00e9\u00e9n van de havens. Tijdens deze excursies ga je samen met chef-koks verse ingredi\u00ebnten inkopen op lokale markten, authentieke regionale gerechten proeven en restaurants met Michelinsterren bezoeken. Een parade van glimmende gebakskarretjes stopt bij onze gezellige sofa, waar al een zilveren theepot met warme thee voor ons klaarstaat. Op de karretjes liggen versgemaakte sandwiches met gerookte zalm en eiersalade, toastjes met krabsalade, glanzende petits fours, zachte scones met romige clotted cream, taart en cake.<\/p>\n<p>Slaat de klok vijf uur? Dan is het tijd voor een cocktail. Aan boord vind je meerdere bars, maar Martinis is toch wel onze favoriet. Hier krijg je, zoals de naam al doet vermoeden, een uitgebreide collectie martini\u2019s. Er is geen cocktail die zo typisch Amerikaans is als de martini. Het is dan ook geen wonder dat dit d\u00e9 signature cocktail is van Bond, James Bond. Op de kaart vind je klassiekers zoals de Manhattan en Cosmopolitan. Wij waren fan van de espresso-tini en de peartini.
