Zodra je door de poort het stadje binnenrijdt, begrijp je meteen het Wild West-gevoel. Main Street in het historische downtown mag dan geasfalteerd zijn, je ruikt bij wijze van spreken nog de paarden die aan het wachten zijn op hun cowboy. Twee straten verderop, aan Broadway, vind je de Sheridan Inn. Hier ontstond de beroemde Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. Tijdens zijn roemrijke carri\u00e8re investeerde hij in de ontwikkeling van de Sheridan Inn en hield hij audities voor zijn show vanaf de veranda. Dit stadje ligt ruim twee kilometer boven zeeniveau tussen de bergen. Het is ook een van de jongste stadjes in Wyoming, gebaseerd op leeftijd, dankzij de aanwezigheid van de Universiteit van Wyoming. Met ruim 30.000 inwoners is het de vierde grootste stad van de staat. Het stadje ontstond rond 1865 als tentenkamp voor de in aanleg zijnde Union Pacific-spoorlijn. Laramie is hierdoor een \u00e9chte frontierstad. De spoorwegen zijn er nog altijd; niet verwonderlijk ligt het originele Main Street en het historische centrum direct naast het spoor. Disney\u2019s Cheyenne Hotel werd namelijk ge\u00efnspireerd op de hoofdstad Cheyenne in Wyoming. Met ruim 65.000 inwoners is het de grootste stad van de staat, niet verwonderlijk als hoofdstad.
